Autumn Promise

From a chance meeting in a local pub to a romantic proposal in Barcelona, Emma-Jane and Craig’s story is one of connection, thoughtful planning and a celebration filled with warmth, laughter and autumnal charm.

Their journey began in familiar surroundings, proving that sometimes the best things happen close to home. What started as a simple introduction soon grew into something deeper, with shared values and an easy companionship setting the tone for everything that followed.

Two years before their wedding day, Craig planned a proposal that would take them far from the North-east to the vibrant streets of Barcelona. In October 2023, he asked Emma-Jane to marry him, presenting a ring from Chisholm Hunter that was a thoughtful semi-surprise. He had taken the time to understand her style, making sure the moment felt both personal and perfectly judged.

The couple allowed themselves two years to plan their wedding, a decision shaped by both practicality and life’s exciting milestones.

During that time, they welcomed their son Alfie in October 2024, making their journey to the aisle even more special. Despite juggling new parenthood, Emma-Jane embraced the planning, choosing to organise everything herself. It was a process she describes as enjoyable and surprisingly stress-free, a reflection of her clear vision from the outset.

Choosing their venue was an important early step. With its modern styling and central location in Aberdeen, the Chester Hotel offered both convenience for guests and a contemporary backdrop that suited their plans perfectly. The couple were drawn to its clean aesthetic, allowing them to bring their own personality into the space.

That personality came through in a rich autumnal colour palette, with burnt orange running throughout the day. From bridesmaids’ dresses to carefully considered décor details, the theme created a warm and inviting atmosphere that reflected the season beautifully. Many elements were put together by hand, adding a personal touch to the setting.

When it came to the rings, the couple chose them together, selecting timeless pieces from Finnies for Emma-Jane and Beaverbrooks for Craig. It was another moment of shared decision-making, something that was a quiet thread throughout their planning.

Finding the dress was a moment Emma-Jane will always remember. Five months pregnant, she visited Lillia Bridal and chose the very first gown she tried on. Despite initial concern about how she might feel, the experience exceeded all expectations. She had known bridal consultant Limara from school so the appointment felt relaxed and personal, and she left feeling confident in a dress she still loves to this day.

Her bridesmaids Nikki and Ashleigh wore burnt orange dresses that tied seamlessly into the overall look, while Craig and his groomsmen embraced classic Highlandwear, creating a timeless balance between tradition and modern styling.

The night before the wedding was spent at the venue, allowing everyone to settle in and enjoy the build-up. Emma-Jane stayed with her parents, son and bridesmaids, while Craig and his best man made themselves at home in the bridal suite. By the morning, everything was in place, and the day unfolded just as they had hoped - calm, smooth and full of excitement.

Their ceremony, led by Laura Gordon of Caledonia Celebrant, was everything they wanted it to be. Short, personal and filled with laughter, it reflected their personalities perfectly and set the tone for the celebrations that followed.

Drinks and canapés allowed guests to relax and connect before the speeches, which took place ahead of the meal and brought both emotion and humour to the room.

One of the most memorable moments came just before the evening began. After initially ruling it out, Craig made a last-minute decision to return to their original first dance choice, Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. It was a spontaneous change that felt right, adding an extra layer to an already special moment.

As the evening celebrations got underway, DJ Paul T kept the dancefloor full, with guests quick to compliment the music and atmosphere. It was exactly the kind of lively, joyful celebration the couple had hoped for.

Looking back, Emma-Jane reflects on the day as one of the best of her life. Having originally considered a smaller wedding, she is glad they chose to celebrate with a larger group, creating a rare moment where all their friends and family could come together in one place.

For their minimoon, the newlyweds enjoyed a relaxed break at Piperdam Lodges with their son, embracing a quieter moment after the celebrations. A trip to Italy awaits later this year, offering the chance for a child-free honeymoon and another chapter in their story.

Their advice to other couples is simple and heartfelt. Enjoy every moment: the day passes quickly, but the memories stay with you long after the final dance.
