A Cinderella Story

Love, laughter and a touch of Disney magic graced the unforgettable wedding of Claire Cargill and Michael Loggie at Drumtochty Castle. Was it faith, trust and a little pixie dust that led to such a perfect day or just good planning? The bride tells all…

“Michael proposed on my birthday, having planned it all out beautifully and I threw a spanner in the works… Oops! He wanted to take me to Rogie Falls where we’d visited very early on in our relationship but I’d wanted to go somewhere new that day. A slightly panicked Michael had to create a new plan and, later that night, he popped the question while we were cutting my birthday cake. I, of course, said yes! We popped open the bubbly he’d snuck in his suitcase and toasted to our engagement, along with a slice of cake.

We gave ourselves two years to plan everything and our first priority was securing a date at Drumtochty Castle, which looked like something out of a fairytale. Driving through the gates with herds of stag watching us pass by, we fell in love instantly. It was a truly breathtaking setting.

We knew we wanted somewhere special to bring our family and friends together for a few days. Particularly because we had people flying in from Australia and Saudi Arabia, we wanted somewhere we could bring guests together for a few days so with that and its wow-factor, Drumtochty was a no-brainer. Our theme was elegant with a touch of whimsy and Disney magic; subtle references woven into the burgundy and silver colour scheme.

When it came to choosing my dress, I already had a shortlist and, as if by magic, a local boutique announced they had a sample sale… With my dream dress on the advert! I immediately messaged them and booked the first appointment I could get my hands on. Eilidh was fantastic and understood exactly the type of dresses I liked. I tried others to make sure I was totally sure about the one I loved but, really, I’d known as soon as I saw it that it was the one for me.

The morning of the wedding the guys went clay pigeon shooting; a great morning activity for them whilst everyone else got ready. We had a lovely, relaxed morning – the champagne was flowing and a tasty breakfast set us up for a long but fun day ahead.

We opted for a humanist ceremony infused with warmth and humour, complete with a flower man and a funny incident involving a miniature quaich. Afterwards our guests were treated to an array of delicious canapés, including haggis bon bons and goat's cheese tartlets, before tucking into a scrumptious dinner.

We had our first dance to Haley Reinhart's rendition of Can't Help Falling in Love, which sparked a heartfelt moment as our guests joined in with the lyrics. The evening continued with ourband who provided a blend of modern hits, classics and ceilidh tunes, igniting the dance floor with laughter and infectious energy.

Post-wedding, we enjoyed a peaceful mini-moon at Glencoe House before a grand honeymoon to Dubai and the Maldives where we indulged in plenty of relaxation and created cherished memories together.

Reflecting on our journey, I think if we could offer couples a piece of advice it would be this: Stay true to your vision and enjoy the process as much as possible.”
