Wait for it

Planning a wedding is always stressful, but there are even more decisions to be made during a pandemic. While micro-weddings are on the rise, some couples have decided to wait a bit longer before saying “I do”. Bride-to-be Adele tells us why she’s p

Wait for it

“Clay and I are childhood sweethearts and have been together since we met at school aged 16. We got engaged after seven years during a surprise weekend away at Loch Lomond. I was completely shocked and over the moon.

“I’ve been picturing my wedding for years, so we started planning straight away. We were all set to tie the knot on 25 April 2020 but the whole country went into lockdown the month before. We decided to postpone until August thinking everything would be fine by then.

“But we soon realised we still wouldn’t be able to have our dream wedding and postponed again until 5 March this year.

â€œAround this time, I decided to start my own blog to keep everyone up-to-date with the wedding. I also wanted to create a community to help others in the same position. I had a lot of guilt around complaining about our wedding when the virus had ruined so many lives, but this was a safe space to vent, ask questions and highlight local suppliers.

“We were feeling really optimistic about the March date but we were no further forward by the end of 2020. So, we decided that the best option was to change the date again. We just didn’t want to have a restricted day and there are a lot of things we didn’t want to sacrifice.

“I can’t imagine having our day without the first dance or dancing with my dad. And now we’ve made the decision, I feel like there’s a stress off me. Our new wedding date is 1 April 2022, which is extra special because it’s also my mum and dad anniversary. Our suppliers have been so understanding and I’m so grateful to all of them.

“I don’t think anyone could have anticipated that we’d still not be married by now. Planning has definitely made us closer as a couple, and I appreciate Clay so much more. Now, we’re just waiting for the big day to arrive!”
